TCR knows that adapting to change is hard whether you are an individual or an organization. While the pace of change that is occurring all around us makes holding on to the status quo impossible, it nonetheless is the goal for many. Transitioning into the Information Age is no less difficult, yet it is a critically important undertaking. A successful transition can positively impact many of the top issues facing our country:
- Economic Competitiveness- It is intuitively obvious (and statistically proven) that for every deployed teleworker you save $10-12,000 a year. If one region's employers do a lot of telework and another region does not, it is clear what the market will do to the latter community. Long term viability is at stake!
- Urban Congestion and Air Quality- Across the country the traditional 8-5 worker's drive to work creates a level of congestion that is increasingly unacceptable. We can bring telework into the process and quickly reduce congestion levels while enhancing employer bottom-lines or we can spend billions on roads, light rail and the other traditional solutions. Making telework a full partner with these other solutions makes a more powerful systemic approach.
- Neighborhood and Family Revitalization- expanding the parental presence in our neighborhoods can be a significant deterrence to crime while creating an internal demand for local enterprises. The more teleworkers in a community, the better access to bandwidth and the opportunities that this brings via the other telecommuting applications. Reducing the time and stress of the daily commute can have a powerful impact on the quality of family life...and it also opens the door to rural revitalization as well.
